How is science clicked on Twitter? Click metrics for Bitly short links to scientific publications

To provide some context for the potential engagement behavior of Twitter users around science, this article investigates how Bitly short links to scientific publications embedded in scholarly mentions are clicked on Twitter. Based click metrics over 1.1 million referring Web Science (WoS) publications, our results show that 49.5% them were not by users. For those with clicks from Twitter, majority their accumulated within a period time after they first tweeted. field Social Sciences and Humanities tend attract more other subject fields. This also assesses extent which correlated impact indicators. weakly indicators (WoS citations Mendeley readers), but moderately (total retweets total likes).
